Problem
Plates and screws are used to realign broken bones and allow them to heal properly. During this process, it is possible for the screws to experience failure.
Screw Failure Mechanism
Varying loads and recurrent movements lead to the loosening of screws. Without proper fixation, the bone will not heal properly.
Current Strategy
Reducing relative movement between the bone and the plate will reduce the loosening of the screws. Adding a texture on the plate will increase the frictional force between the bone and plate and prevent failure.
